As vice president, talent and organizational development for Publix Super Markets, Alison Midili Smith is responsible for providing strategic direction to the talent management functions across retail, manufacturing, distribution and support office business for the privately owned, $32 billion company that operates 1,116 stores in six Southeastern states. She oversees leadership development, succession planning, talent acquisition and assessment, diversity, performance management and HR policy development. Smith began her Publix career in 1996 as manager of selection and advanced to director of employment and staffing and director of organizational development. Before joining Publix, Smith consulted with companies on improving their organizational talent by developing assessment systems, employee engagement surveys, training needs assessments and performance management processes. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Emory University and earned a master’s degree and doctorate in industrial/organizational psychology at University of South Florida.
